Klaskin Therapy

Professional Background

I have been in private practice in Beverly Hills and West Los Angeles for more than twenty-five years. I specialize in the treatment of patients with anxiety and depression disorders, physical and psychosomatic illness, trauma, and relationship and intimacy problems. I am on the teaching faculty at The Graduate Center for Child Development and Psychotherapy and have lectured in the community on various topics including adolescent eating disorders, impact of divorce on children and families, child abuse and child abuse recovery in adulthood.

Prior to private practice, I worked as a clinical social worker at UCLA Medical Center providing critical support for patients and families coping with severe illness. For several years I worked closely with patients undergoing dialysis and transplantation. Because of my time working in a hospital setting, I developed a strong interest in the psychosocial aspects of physical illness and continue to work frequently with patients struggling with serious health problems.

I received my B.A. and M.S.W. from UCLA, and went on to receive my Ph.D. at The Graduate Center for Child Development and Psychotherapy. My clinical orientation has been psychodynamic; however, I am now also utilizing a psychotherapeutic modality with many patients called Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). I have found ISTDP to be powerfully effective in helping patients who are suffering with poor self esteem, self-defeating behavior patterns, anxiety and depression, and repeated relationship difficulty. I would describe my therapeutic style as warm, engaging and direct.

Although Spanish is not my first language, I have studied Spanish while living both in Mexico and Guatemala, I am conversant and pleased to work with Spanish speaking clients.
